| So You Think You Can Dance - Reality Dance Competition | |
| So You Think You Can Dance is an American dance reality show and competition which was produced by Rapid Blue for SABC1 in 2008. Thousands of contestants competed in major metropolitan cities throughout the country, Cape Town, Johannesburg, PE and Durban for a chance to become the nation’s favourite and most versatile dancer. After rigorous training and guidance from choreographers, the top 20 contestants were randomly paired up to perform different dance styles in front of a live audience and the judges. During each week two dancers, one male and one female were eliminated by the viewers through sms voting until only four dancers remained. During the final two shows the remaining dancers were paired up and were also expected to perform individual routines. On Saturday, 1 November 2008, Elizma Wildschutte was officially crowned as South Africa’s first winner of So You Think You Can Dance. Series one of So You Think You Can Dance spiked at a massive 60% audience share for its timeslot on SABC 1. This prompted the channel to order another two series of the popular format. |
