| Sokka Kings is a successful reality-TV format, which showcases the best in up-and-coming South African football talent. The show was co-developed by Rapid Blue and broadcast on SABC 1. 30 000 contestants put their skills to the test at stadiums around the country. After a stringent selection process 50 players from across SA travelled to Johannesburg. More intensive trials left just 20 players to take part in the 8-week training camp and the final stages of the competition. Teams of five-a-side were picked every week, and it was against this backdrop that viewers and judges selected the winner. But the action doesn’t stop on the field. The cameras followed the players everywhere to show what kind of people they really are. Personality counted just as much as goal scoring ability! With fast-paced soccer action and a look into the real lives of our future sports stars, Sokka Kings was one of the most popular series on SABC 1 during 2006. The format is currently being distributed internationally. |
