Olympic Games

With Rapid Blue’s broadcasts of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to 37 countries throughout sub-Sahara Africa, the continent was truly inspired by this magnificent sporting event. Who will forget the Opening Ceremony, Michael Phelps’s eight gold medals, Usain Bolt’s world record dashes in both the 100 and 200 meter track events?

Our transmissions involved sending two seperate satellite feeds for 6 hours of broadcasting daily in three languages: English, French and Portuguese. We also edited and broadcast a 2-hour highlights package during every day of the games. “This was the most extensive broadcast project across Africa ever undertaken on behalf of terrestrial broadcasters” says Producer, Romy Nomis.

Rapid Blue is part of ABN (Africa Broadcast Network) and as such, we are the commercial broadcast partners to the Africa Union of Broadcasts. These Olympic Games broadcasts were the first in a series of multiple African country terrestrial broadcasts linked via satellite, building up to the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup event in South Africa.
